Summary
In the icy northern seas, a young sea otter named Sedna lives a happy life but dreams of adventure beyond her home.
Each year, she eagerly awaits Toklo, a well-travelled cormorant whose migration stories fascinate her. When Toklo doubts her ability to travel, Sedna begins to question her own limits.
That night, guided by H2O, she embarks on a magical journey through the Earth’s water cycle.
Empowered by discovery, Sedna sets off again with Toklo on an even greater adventure of learning and exploration.
Sedna
This playful, dreamy little sea otter hardly realises how monotonous her existence is – and yet, when something out-of-the-ordinary happens, her heart beats a little bit faster. Her cute appearance, slightly resembling a cuddly toy, conceals a remarkably fearless character. Sedna is the heroine of this story. She will set off in search of something that is bigger than her, and attracts her. Although her species is sedentary, Sedna will go on the greatest of journeys.
Toklo
A serious blowhard, fairly clumsy and just a little bit gutless, Toklo the cormorant is Sedna’s antagonist and also her joker. He is the embodiment of those who know a little but think they know a lot. Some adults in the audience will identify with his tendency to rely on guesswork.
Kuak
A secondary character in the story, Kuak, the ice creamselling penguin who’s a bit of a grump and very sensitive to the cold, stands for continuity and the established
order. The prospect of escaping from the slightly routine world he represents is what gives Sedna the urge to go adventuring. And the story will also transport Kuak,
despite himself, to places his mind could not possibly imagine.
