Summary
Flying Over an Eruption in an Immersive Format
At Vulcania Park, visitors can observe the eruptions of Fagradalsfjall, an Icelandic volcano located in the southwest of the country. This fulldome sequence is screened in the park’s planetarium and retraces recent events dating back to 2021.
We created this sequence by working from the site’s DEM files (Digital Elevation Models). By combining older terrain data with more recent datasets, we were able to recreate images of the eruption as it occurred. The DEMs provided the essential information we needed, including the location of faults and the various transformations of the landscape.
We then modeled the lava flows and the different effects associated with them. The sequence is simple yet effective: the camera starts high in the sky, descends near the volcano, and allows spectators to admire the eruption.
This sequence is a part of a show called « The Volcano, Sidereal Adventure »
